Lavender was initially found in the Southern Mediterranean and is now widespread in much of Western Europe. The plant’s name derives from the Latin word ‘lavare,’ which means ‘to wash,’ as ancient Europeans commonly used it to scent bathing water. Lavender was also used as a strewing herb, placed on the floor around the home to release its fragrance when stepped on. Lavender had a role in creating the word ‘Aromatherapy’ after French perfume chemist René-Maurice Gattefossé discovered Lavender’s restorative properties when he accidentally burnt his arm and plunged it into a vat of Lavender oil.

Usage:

Diffuser Blend – Add 6-8 drops of Lavender to your diffuser to create a soothing and calming atmosphere. It is also helpful for relieving the symptoms of coughs and colds.

Massage Blend – Add up to 5 drops per 10ml of blending oil, perfect for a relaxing bedtime massage.

Skin Blend – Add 2 drops per 10ml of blending oil for a facial blend or up to 5 drops per 10ml of blending oil for use on the body. Beneficial for all skin types.

Bath Blend – Add 4-6 drops of essential oil to 20ml of blending oil. Add to your bath water and swirl to disperse. This will make at least 3 baths.

Inhalation – Useful as a facial steam, add 3 drops of Lavender to a bowl of hot water, place a towel over your head, close your eyes and breathe. Application not suitable for asthmatics, instead use in a diffuser.
